The Sunol Valley Water Treatment Plant (SVWTP) is located in the Sunol Valley of Alameda County. The existing treatment plant employs a conventional treatment process that includes pH/alkalinity adjustment, pre-oxidation, coagulation/flash mix, powder activated carbon (PAC), flocculation, sedimentation, filtration, disinfection, and fluoridation with a sustainable capacity of 160 million gallons per day (mgd). The SVWTP Short-Term Improvements Project is a collaborative design effort between SFPUC Engineering Management Bureau (EMB) and a Consultant Design Team. The treatment process components were assessed by a previous team and categorized the necessary repairs into two projects: Short-Term and Long-Term Improvements. The Short-Term project includes a variety of critical treatment components in need of repair, replacement and upgrades.

JHCE provided project coordination and mechanical engineering design services during the planning and design phases. Design includes concrete repairs, sludge system replacement including cross collector augers and drive, progressive cavity pumps, process piping and instrumentation, and a new chemical transfer pipe trench.
